To support further growth of advanced capabilities that can benefit the broader materials community at Rice, the Rice Advanced Materials Institute (RAMI) has entered into a collaboration agreement with the Shared Equipment Authority (SEA) and will provide additional funding to support the acquisition of equipment that aligns with the Institute’s research priorities. The financial support provided by RAMI will serve as a supplement to the existing budget SEA receives each year for equipment purchases and is meant to augment or extend Rice’s ability to invest in new research infrastructure.
RAMI members planning to submit equipment proposals to SEA this year, which have the potential for a significant positive impact on RAMI’s research objectives, may choose to state this and provide a brief description when submitting their proposals to this point. Please find the SEA equipment call for Fall 2024 here.
The proposals will adhere to the standard SEA equipment submission and review process, following all established SEA rules and guidelines. Please do NOT submit proposals directly to RAMI - they will not be considered. After initial screening and evaluation of proposals by SEA, RAMI and SEA leadership will work to identify systems of highest value to the advanced materials research endeavor at Rice and purchase them utilizing the RAMI research infrastructure funds. These funds may be used for fully or partially supporting the purchase of the shared equipment based on the scope of the equipment and budget constraints. In essence, RAMI research infrastructure funds will enable the acquisition of additional essential equipment by SEA and enhance campus wide materials characterization/testing capabilities.
